Operation: River Gee - Kanweakan, Liberia

In 2006, the United Nations granted us access to the Liberian interior for the purpose of conducting medical clinics. On aircraft provided by the UN, we took our first trip deep into the heart of Liberia to River Gee County. River Gee is located in southeastern Liberia – a 16-hour trip from the capital city of Monrovia. One of the newest counties in Liberia, it was established in the year 2000 as a result of political and ethnic unrest, and is predominantly populated by the Grebo ethnic group. It is one of the most remote and primitive places in the country.

During our trip, we found the villages in this region were not receiving aid to re-establish themselves after the civil war - mainly because the roads are largely impassible. As a result, the natives are in dire need of help. We at CHAP have partnered with the local church to meet these needs.

In 2008, we purchased 154 acres in River Gee County with a vision for holistic community redevelopment. We had the land assessed in June of 2009. We are currently in the process of constructing a large multi-purpose facility we’ve named Victory Base Camp. It will be CHAP’s central base for providing Bible training, long and short-term missionary and staff housing, and evangelization efforts. It will also include the following essential services for the community:

  • Christian Educational Center (K-12) – opening 2011
  • Community Hospital
  • School Administration Offices & Medical Clinic
  • Community Outreach Center
  • Vocational Training School
  • Commercial Shops - promoting economic and trade development

In 2010, we still need to raise funds for close to $15,000 for Victory Base Camp and are seeking donations from those who wish to become involved. By giving sacrificially, you are helping to bring life, hope and the Gospel to the Liberian people!
